BBQ Pro: annual plan vs. lifetime

What the annual plan has cost by the end of each year, against the one-time price.

Compared with the $30/year plan, it pays for itself after 20 months and saves $100 over five years.

Total cost of the annual plan compared with the lifetime price
Period	Annual plan, total	Lifetime	Difference
Year 1	$30	$50	Lifetime costs $20 more
Year 2	$60	$50	You save $10
Year 3	$90	$50	You save $40
Year 4	$120	$50	You save $70
Year 5	$150	$50	You save $100

Is the BBQ Pro lifetime deal worth it?

BBQ Pro costs $50 once for 1 site. The annual plan costs $30 a year, so the lifetime license pays for itself after 20 months. Over five years you save $100 compared with renewing every year.

Yes, if you want a fast WordPress firewall that you can tune yourself and keep for years. The BBQ Pro lifetime deal pays off once you would otherwise renew the yearly plan for a few years, because a request firewall is something you never remove again. Updates and pro support stay included for life in every tier.

It makes less sense if you need malware scans, file monitoring or a dashboard full of reports, because the plugin blocks bad requests and nothing more. Agencies get the most out of it: the tiers cover 1 site for $50, 3 sites for $100, 10 sites for $200, 300 sites for $440. Refunds within 30 days apply only to functional problems, so test it on a staging copy first. Prices were checked on Oct 4, 2026.

Block Bad Queries free vs. BBQ Pro

The free Block Bad Queries plugin on wordpress.org has 100,000+ active installs and protects a site with a fixed set of patterns. You install it and it works, there is nothing to configure.

The Pro version makes those patterns your own. You add or edit rules for query strings, request URIs, user agents, referrers and IP ranges, protect the login page against XML-RPC exploits, block overly long requests and user ID phishing and get statistics plus email alerts for every blocked request.

Lightweight WordPress firewall: lifetime license or yearly plan

A request firewall runs on every page view, so you keep it as long as the site exists. That is why a one-time license fits better than a yearly fee here. Since every tier includes lifetime updates and support, the bigger tiers for 3, 10 or 300 sites are a simple way to cover a whole client portfolio with one purchase.

What happens after you buy BBQ Pro

You download the Pro plugin from your account and activate it with your license key. Run the built in pattern test, then add your own rules step by step and watch the statistics for false positives. Rules can be exported and imported, so the same setup moves to your other sites in a few clicks. If you also fight bad bots, it pairs well with Blackhole Pro from Plugin Planet.

BBQ Pro features

Fully customizable firewall patterns
Protects the login page against XML-RPC exploits

Blocks overly long requests and user ID phishing
Email alerts and statistics for blocked requests

BBQ Pro: Lightweight WordPress firewall

BBQ Pro (Block Bad Queries) is a lightweight WordPress firewall by Jeff Starr.

It checks every request against patterns for malicious query strings, request URIs, user agents, referrers and IP addresses and blocks matches before WordPress does any work. The Pro version lets you add your own patterns, protect the login page and XML-RPC, block long requests and user ID phishing and see statistics for every blocked request. It runs without a settings wizard or database overhead, so it suits sites where speed matters.

License: One-time payment for 1 site with lifetime updates and support; lifetime tiers for 3, 10 and 300 sites are also available.
