WordPress lifetime deals: skip the subscription, pay once

A lifetime deal is a license for a WordPress plugin or theme that you pay for once instead of renewing it every year. What “lifetime” covers, such as updates, support and the number of sites, is set by each vendor. Read the license line on the deal and the vendor’s terms before you buy.

They pay off when you keep using a tool for longer than its payback period. Every deal with an annual plan shows after how many months the one-time payment costs less than the subscription. If you only need a plugin for a short project, the annual plan is often the cheaper choice.

With a subscription you renew every year and keep updates and support only while you pay. A lifetime license is a one-time payment, and updates and support run for as long as the vendor’s license terms say. The price of a subscription can rise at every renewal; a lifetime price is paid once.

Usually for as long as the vendor keeps developing the product, but not always. Some lifetime licenses limit updates or support to a fixed period, or leave out future major versions. The vendor’s license terms decide, not this catalog.

That depends on the license tier. Every deal names the number of sites it covers, from a single site to unlimited sites. Vendors often sell several lifetime tiers, so check the license line before you buy.

A lifetime license is only as durable as the vendor behind it. If a product is discontinued, the installed plugin usually keeps working, but updates and support stop. Vendors can also change their pricing; existing licenses normally keep their terms, but nobody can guarantee that on the vendor’s behalf.
