Media Cleaner Pro

Media Cleaner Pro costs $299 once for 5 sites. The annual plan costs $69 a year, so the lifetime license pays for itself after 52 months. Over five years you save $46 compared with renewing every year.

Yes, if you look after several WordPress sites whose uploads folders have grown over the years. Because the entry tier already covers several sites and includes updates for life, the license pays off best when you use it on all of them, and smaller uploads mean faster backups and less storage on every site.

It pays off less if you only run one site or if your library is small. Support is included for 1 year, so plan your first cleanups early while you can still ask questions. If you manage many client sites, the tiers for 20, 500 and 2,500 sites in the table spread the price further.

The free Media Cleaner on wordpress.org runs on 90,000+ sites. It scans the Media Library for files that no post or page seems to use and moves them to its own trash, so you can restore anything before it is deleted for good.

Media Cleaner Pro adds the checks that make the result reliable on complex sites. It reads meta fields, widgets and page builder content, scans the uploads folder on the filesystem, can scan the live site for more precise results and runs from WP-CLI for very large libraries. That lowers the risk of flagging an image that a builder or plugin still uses.

Unused images pile up again after every redesign, imported demo and abandoned post. Cleaning the media library is therefore a task you repeat, and a yearly subscription would charge you for every round.

With the lifetime license from Meow Apps you pay once and keep getting updates. Support is limited to the first year, which is the main difference to the yearly plan. For agencies the larger lifetime tiers cover all client sites with one purchase.

You install the Pro plugin from your account and activate the license. Make a full backup, run the scan, review the list and move files to the trash first. Check the site for missing images for a few days, then empty the trash. The refund window is 14 days, there is no trial.
